Last verified Oct 18, 2026. Program rules come from each utility's official page. Product facts come from each manufacturer's page.
Read this before you buy. Most Florida drip rebates pay to convert existing in-ground spray zones to drip or micro-irrigation, not for a hose-faucet garden kit. Several programs need an evaluation or pre-approval before you buy or start work. Receipts dated before approval may not count. Call your utility first.
Programs that pay for drip
From our verified program data. The rules column is taken from each official page.
| Program | Drip rebate | Rules | Source |

- Pre-approval first: Leesburg requires pre-approval and an on-site assessment before purchase, then install and final inspection within 60 days. Miami-Dade requires a free UF/IFAS pre-assessment before any work.
- Evaluation and inspection: Apopka requires a City irrigation evaluation and inspects after install. OUC requires an inspection.
- Minimum area: OUC requires the high-volume share of the irrigated area to drop to 50% or less.
- Receipts: Miami-Dade wants itemized invoices and proof of payment. Leesburg pays on product cost, except for micro conversions, where installation counts.
- Water source: Leesburg and OUC exclude reclaimed-water customers.

Most homeowners choose based on budget, brand and what they already have in the ground. Check that the conversion part fits the spray bodies in your yard.

Replacing an old indexing-valve system
Many older Florida systems run every zone through a single mechanical indexing valve. It moves to the next zone each time the water is stopped and started, and it runs on water pressure, with no wires to each zone. With standard electric valves, each zone gets its own valve, wired to a controller (source: K-Rain).
- Valves: residential valves such as the Rain Bird DV/DVF series use a 24 VAC solenoid (Rain Bird DV/DVF specs). Plan one valve per zone.
- Backflow: Local codes may require a separate backflow preventer (Rain Bird).
Build your own conversion: parts list
- Controller: one with enough zones for your yard, plus the drip zone. Compare models and rebate rules in our smart controller guide.
- One valve per zone, in a valve box.
- New 18-gauge multi-conductor irrigation wire (often called multi-strand) from the controller to the valves, since the old system has none. Each valve gets its own wire to its zone terminal, and the other wire on every valve joins one shared common, so you need one conductor per zone plus one common: 4 zones need 5-conductor wire, 6 zones need 7-conductor wire. Rain Bird specifies direct-burial, color-coded wire, 18 gauge for runs under 800 ft and 14 gauge over 800 ft (Rain Bird SST installation manual). Measure the run from the controller to the valve box before you buy.
- Waterproof wire connectors at every splice (Rain Bird SST installation manual).
- For a drip zone: the control zone kit, tubing, emitters and fittings listed above.

How to claim a drip rebate
- Find your program. Look up your county page or enter your ZIP.
- Call or apply for pre-approval before buying. Ask whether an evaluation is required and what counts (parts only, or labor too).
- Convert the whole zone. Drip has to run on its own zone. Convert or cap every spray head on it.
- Keep itemized, dated receipts and take before and after photos.
- Schedule the final inspection within the program's deadline (Leesburg: 60 days from pre-approval).
